@AhkTrust - Why not trim the fat now and then when the economy rebounds within the next two years, we will be that much better off because we will have this surplus from increased tax revenue. Do you agree? Or for that matter, what if the economy gets worse? Then what?

Maybe the most ridiculous argument I've heard yet is the claim by certain GOP members that they are really not cutting since the amount of $ is the same for education, etc. this session. The say they have the courage to tell voters the truth. Hogwash....The truth is the State's population has grown by a million people in two years and they simply do not want to find the resources to pay for the services that growth entails.

HB 1 is unacceptable and mean-spirited. It hurts the poor, people with disabilities, school children, and millions of Texans who can't speak up for themselves. Sad to say that SB 1 is a far-preferable alternative. I hope some of these "smaller government" advocates find out for themselves what it's like to need the help of their neighbors someday -- and we have enough money to actually help them.

Well, here we are on Amendment of 50 of...how many? 400? This is almost like attending a really long funeral, but HB1 is where the rubber meets the road.

I hope that the House can work together to find the best solutions for Texas. We all have to make sacrifices during this economic downturn.
