Central to the debate over illegal immigration is the question of exactly how many state dollars are expended on services for illegal aliens. HB 21 would require all state agencies to let the legislature know exactly how much each agency spends on such services, in order to increase transparency and put lawmakers on solid footing regarding the actual cost to the state of illegal immigration.

@Steve84, your article says that "The total cost for state services was $1.15 billion, but illegal immigrants, through sales and property taxes, provided $1.58 billion in taxes for the state. That was a net positive impact to state finances of $424.7 million." It also says, "but they did cost local governments $929 million in 2005." I'm no math major but.....

We need reports showing the financial effects of providing Government services like education, welfare, healthcare, etct to illegal immigrants and their children. Estimates are that it is costing the State of Texas BILLIONS of dollars every year. We have a deficit that needs to be closed by cutting State spending. This is one place to cut without effecting the LEGAL children of Texas Citizens.
