Comments from Leo Berman

The 14th Amendment is used erroneously to award citizenship to the children of aliens, both legal and illegal, born in the US. In the debate in the US Senate in 1866, the author said," It does not apply to foreigners." The bill would prohibit the State from issuing a birth certificate to the child of an illegal alien born in Texas. Instead, they will be given a notice of birth with instructions to go to their own embassy or consulate for a birth certificate. If passed, we will be sued by ACLU, MALDEF, LA RAZA, etc. That is the purpose of the bill. We want the Supreme Court to eventually rule on the legal contact of the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment. It is a nation-wide movement both in the US Congress and State Legislatures.

It is time to correct the pandering of a federal judge who was eager to score points for compassion but evidently had no understanding of the 14th amendment. Thank you Leo !!!!

Thank you Rep. Berman for standing up for commonsense. No country in the world (except the Canadans) allows this type of birthright citizenship. This is one of the huge MAGNETS that attracts poor people from around the world to try to have their babies in the USA in order use their child's birth to allow them to stay in the USA because their child supposedly is a US Citizen. Just as Rep. Berman commented, the 14th Amendment was ONLY intended to give citizenship to the children of Black slaves not to foreigners especially illegal alien foreigners. Only a crazy liberal judge could reinterpret the 14th Amendment to give Citizenship to the babies of illegal aliens. Note that the 14th Amendment did NOT even give Citizenship to the babies of American Indians (that didn't happen until Indian Citizenship Act of 1924).
