HB 296 is similar to the AZ bill. The first part was found to be unconstitutional by a federal judge in Phoenix, AZ. because it allowed local law enforcement officers discretion in choosing who they will ask about immigration status. In my bill, local officers who stop anyone for a traffic violation must ask everyone the same questions concerning immigration status. In that way, there is no discretion, therefore no profiling. The bill also requires employers to use E-Verify and prohibits sanctuary cities.
