At first I thought, "what's exactly would the difference be?". In fact, the difference would be subtle, but very important. While the BoE is directly elected, the TEA is headed by a Commissioner appointed by the Governor. In other words, this bill would place Texas' education directly in the hands of the Governor. Rick Perry at the helm or not, that's autocratic at best.

I don't believe in taking choices away from the voters. Besides, the moderate educrats have taken over the SBOE. They were smart enough to run as Republicans even though they really aren't conservative. Tricky tricksters.

Why should we abolish the SBOE? They are elected officials! If you don't like your representative then make it out to vote! Giving the power to a state agency is a horrible idea.
