The Promoting Independence Advisory Committee (PIAC) is a group of stakeholders that includes advocates, care providers, and persons with disabilities and their families. It is charged with studying and making recommendations relating to developing a comprehensive and effective working plan to ensure appropriate care settings for persons with disabilities. What's more, the committee provides informed analysis of the availability, application and efficacy of existing community-based supports for persons with disabilities.

SB 37 would extend the statutory authority for the existence of PIAC and allow it to continue to make critical recommendations to health and human services agencies. These recommendations address the most appropriate methods for helping persons with disabilities live in the least restrictive settings.
