SJR17
SUMMARY
Banning unfunded mandates is fair and responsible policy. When the state shifts the cost burden in this manner, it puts local government in the difficult position of cutting services or increasing taxes in order to shoulder the cost. SJR 17 ensures that when the state requires local governmental entities to make an expenditure, the state must provide payment for that expense, effectively banning unfunded mandates.
